I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.
- Charles Dickens, Ebeneezer Scrooge, A Christmas Carol
Our nativity set will stay up until Candlemas but the rest of Christmas is packed away. One of my most cherished traditions of the season is the wonderful cards, letters and photos we receive from friends and family. They stay out much longer and help us keep Christmas all year.
The cards and letters are on the mantle in the Christmas card box my sister-in-law, Roxanne, made for me several years ago. Each night during family prayers we pull out a card and pray for the intentions of the person or family.
Since we have a real Christmas tree every year, Nissa suggested that we trim the branches off our tree and cut it into two beams, fasten them together and make an Easter cross out of it. Now it stands sentry on the back deck waiting to be of use once more in our family celebrations of our Lord's incarnation, crucifixion and resurrection.
