I thought I would mention a few of the successes from our cooking and gift giving this Christmas.
In the kids stockings they all received their own set of nail clippers. I found them in little vinyl cases in the travel size section of Target. We often cannot find nail clippers to save our lives. Now everyone has their own and we wrote names on the vinyl cases they came in. Theoretically we are good on nail clippers for a while. You would be surprised at how many of them were pleased.
Another thing each child got was a clip board. They are prolific writers and illustrators so the competition for the two ratty old clip boards we had was fierce. This one seems to be a decent quality and they appreciate that it holds their papers and pencils. The kids report that it has a good drawing surface.
A yummy success was the mini donut maker Regina received. It has already had a lot of use.
There were fun gifts of course, doll things and legos, but we do try to give practical things like clothes, books, art supplies and real tools for projects they like to do.
Not as much baking happened this year as normally happens, though we did plenty. I think the big cooking hit was from New Years Eve. I made this French Onion Beef Strudel. Huge hit. I made two for us and they were devoured.
Let me know if you blog about your hits from this season or share in the comments here!
(Edited to add: I do realize that the whole nail clipper gift idea is laughably pragmatic, go right ahead and chuckle!)
Oh, we love practical here too (I buy clip boards in six packs). I just posted on some of our favorite gifts.
