Advent is preparing our hearts for Christmas, for the most wondrous thing that ever happened, the Incarnation.
In our case, this year anyway, it is about getting ready for Kevin's second hip replacement. He goes in Wednesday and the recovery will take a few weeks. It went well after the last one in the summer but we know how tough it will be. I am trying to take care of whatever I can ahead of time. After Thanksgiving, I cooked and chopped two more turkeys so we would have lots in the freezer, ready for soups and casseroles.
Providentially, last year when I put the Christmas books away I organized them to read a book a day during Advent. I have seen the lovely practice of wrapping the books in purple paper so that the kids can open the book for the day and be surprised. That's not happening this year, they are just on the shelf in order with the post it notes I put on each one last year.
So that is our Advent in a nutshell. The books. No crafts, no special anything else, till Kevin is toward the end of recovery and then it will be a serious crunch to do Christmas. Advent is a good time to practice service within the family... so here we go...
Bridget,
Kevin will be in our family's prayers. Prayesr for a fruitful Advent for you all.
