Our Little Women met today to practice the art of formal table setting and clearing. We discussed how a nicely set table is an important way of showing honor to your guests and respect for the occasion.
Using your nice dishes is surely more work than paper products, but worth the extra effort for the great feasts of the church: Christmas, Easter, the solemnities of Our Lady and St. Joseph. We would use them for the great feasts in a family as well: Thanksgiving, homecomings, baptisms, weddings, ordinations, any festive time.
So it is important to know what goes where, how to make the table look lovely and how to serve and clear graciously.
They cloved oranges for the centerpiece.
Polished the silver
Learned napkin folding (we found is was easier for the younger girls with paper napkins)
Each girl set a formal place setting, following a diagram.
And finally, enjoyed dessert and tea, served by the older girls
Dear Bridget,
How wonderful to have this opportunity for your girls. Are you enjoying the Little women programme. I found the cost of the programme to us here, to much and have attempted to produce a 'home made' version for our girls that we call 'Orchard House Circle.' We will be resuming this when we start back to school in February.
Thnak you for sharing this diagram of place settings. Can I add it to my girls notes as well?
God Bless
