There was a teenage boy hanging out in the kitchen. I tried making conversation but it wasn't really getting anywhere. I asked him if everything was alright. He said some version of 'uh' that sounded like an affirmative and remained silently standing there. I asked him if he was sure he was alright, thinking he might want to talk. He shrugged and said "more or less" and went to do school work.
Glad we cleared that up.
Hey, this teenage boy has been hanging out in my kitchen ,too! Take heart, I'm told it does get better.

I think the wise Elizabeth Foss calls this the 'eat, sleep and grunt' phase. :-)
