We had a fabulous, albeit, short vacation up north (pictures soon). We came home to find our house without power and the freezers defrosting. Apparently a storm had gone through. And Kevin and I both had to get to urgent care to get swabbed for strep throat. (We were fine on the trip but feeling sicker and sicker on the drive back.) The strep tests were positive. Fortunately none of the kids got it and the power came back on. But it took days longer than usual to get the laundry and trip mess taken care of.
Amidst that, we were praying for the Snow family as they buried Matthew Karol and then we got news of the devastating loss of Ryan Barrett. Our whole family is grieving with these dear families.
A bright spot was an unexpected visit from not-quite relatives- but- we- call -them- relatives. Our brother-in-law's sister-in-law and her children. The kids call themselves cousins and they have a grand time together (pictures soon).
However, I look about my house and echo the words of Theodin from The Two Towers. "How did it come to this?" There is laundry, dishes, piles of school books waiting to be incorporated into plans, toys, projects and more laundry. There is no menu plan or planner for August. I am working from scraps of paper on which I jotted notes and taped up to the cupboard so they wouldn't get lost.
So. I am organizing by blogging then I'll pull my sorry self up by the proverbial bootstraps and dig us out of this, with help from my crew, so our school year can begin!
I thought I was the only one who quoted Theoden King when surverying my kitchen! Hope the strep is passing fast and you're all feeling better soon! Sending an encouraging long-distance-cyber-tug on your bootstraps (and some Aves) your way.
