Kevin and I attended the Citizens for a Pro-Life Society Pro-Life Summit. What an encouraging day and what marvelous leaders we heard! The venue was packed, in spite of a snow storm, and was well attended by religious.
Dr. Janet Smith and Al Kresta, of Ave Maria Radio, gave the first talks. We missed most of those because we were working feverishly at the registration table.
Our new bishop, His Excellency Bishop Boyea, spoke on "Dignitas Personae and Pro-Life Action." He exhorted us to change hearts beginning with our families. What a blessing to have his presence and leadership.
Joe Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League has long been a favorite of pro-lifers for his energy, zeal and boundless joy.
Joe Scheidler assured us that the election of Obama has reactivated the pro-life movement. He told us that we cannot be moderate Catholics because we are the Church Militant. We are Christ's army. Can you imagine moderate militants? As militants we are going to be wounded. All good soldiers are wounded. But it is a glorious battle in which we will eventually see victory.
Deal Hudson, Inside Catholic, has been a Catholic consultant in high profile politics. He reminded us that in this last election cycle over 100 bishops spoke up to defend Church teaching and Church documents. He believes we are at the beginning of a new era of Catholics in politics, that our priests and bishops are the key and they are taking up the charge.
With fire and brimstone, Fr. Frank Pavone, of Priests for Life, told us that "The days of legal abortion in this country are numbered." and "The problem will not be that Obama is sitting in the White House, it will be that we are sitting in our houses." He said we are winning because of the massive numbers of young people who attend pro-life events. They know they are survivors. Father said the men and women who have lost children to abortion are finding mercy and new strength and are becoming strong witnesses for the unborn. He counsels abortion providers who have come to terms with the horror of their actions and are working to promote life. These forces cannot be stopped.
Joe Scheidler used an exert from the St. Crispin's Day speech at the Battle at Agincourt to rally his listeners, and rally he did.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Today is St. Crispin's day. Fight with us for the unborn.
