We have outside animals. I just can't handle the extra work that comes with inside animals, and keeping them safely inside would be a feat I'm not capable of. With subzero temps lately we have been bringing them in for the nights. They are a little on the wild side and do not fully appreciate our generosity in keeping them warm.
The cats we put in the downstairs bathroom if we can round them both up. They cannot abide the confinement and throw themselves at the door, yowling their displeasure. The dog we put in the basement in his kennel. He barks every few hours to remind us that he is down there... alone... separated from us... separated from the cats who usually sleep on top of his kennel in the garage. He gets the cats complaining too, or they get him started.
(For the record, we do not bring the chickens in.)
The dog is a burly, hefty lab. Just a big, sweet lug ... and afraid of stairs. So we have to carry him up and down the basement stairs. (Well, Kevin and Kevin J. can carry him.) He argues about this and his resistance makes it especially comedic. He wants to comply, he just can't believe that we would ask him to jump off a cliff like that.
Hopefully the weather will warm up soon and the chicken pox will be poxed out. Maybe then we will have some peaceful nights. At least till the baby comes. Maybe.
I remember, when our weather was really bad a few weeks ago, being thankful I didn't have to worry about any outside animals. (We have two cats, but they're inside.) We used to have an outside dog a couple of years ago, and I would have been so worried about her if we still had her...
I hope the chicken pox finish up soon!
