The academic schedule lightens up in the summer. The kids all keep working on math, whoever the emerging reader is (this year it's Regina) keeps working on learning to read and the big kids keep up with their Latin studies. In fact they have a Latin summer class that runs for the month of June. We have a basket of books for summer reading and more time for leisurely learning. Not to mention outdoor play, dog training, hiking, biking and more time with friends.
Regina had an essay on whales in her reader so we found a couple of internet sites for further learning about whales. Two nifty ones were whale sounds and a whale watch.
The big boys went over to church yesterday to help tear down the old drop ceiling in the parish hall. (We're quite good at demolition.) They're sore today, but still got some work projects done around here for me. :) Next week they begin filming a LOTR production a friend of their's is working on. I think Alex is a Hobbit and Kevin is doing the deep voice overs and Gandolf's double in the Hobbit scenes. It sounds like it's a pretty big production.
Monica finished her math book today. In our family finishing a text book means celebrating with ice cream. She baked this luscious lemon cake to go with it.
Last night we made taco salad and discovered we did not have Catalina dressing. Monica whipped some up from an internet recipe as well. I'm loving this 'older girl who likes to cook' thing. Actually a couple of the boys do too. They have asked to do more this sumer. We'll get them grilling!
I was ready to move to Michigan when you posted about your year end festivities with the pictures of the schola and morality play and sword fighting. I thought about it again when you posted about a youth group that you can actually send your children to. And now you post about filming a LOTR production! Oh my. Please don't tell my guys. Wow.
