After Mass today, Dominic was once again frustrated that he is too young to be an altar boy. (Now there is a penance Father doesn't need. There are already times when certain altar boys forget why they're up there.)
So Blaise set up our miniature Mass kit and showed Dominic how to serve Mass. Dom was immensely pleased. Hopefully that will tide him over for another few years.
Fr. Blaise and his altar boy
The reverent congregation
The very casually dressed Fr. Blaise elevates the host while the altar boy rings the bells three times.
It's tricky letting the children play Mass. You never want to cross over into being disrespectful or irreverent towards the Mass. Yet it is such an important part of our lives that it is natural for them to want to act it out at home. They play Mass with supervision and the girls are not allowed to play the priest or altar boys. But they all enjoy setting up the altar, the procession, singing and recession. The Mass kit is unpacked and packed with great care. Hopefully it will be another way for the children to learn to know, love and serve God.
