While giving up meat & desserts and striving to place an added focus on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy with Bridget and the kids, I'll also be undertaking something special this Lenten season and I invite you to join me!
At Mass this morning, while reflected on the Gospel reading during his Homily, Fr. G pointing out that Our Lord didn't say "if," he said "when"; when you give alms...when you pray...when you fast! These are things we must do! What's really cool is that when we do these things, our own lives become richer... more devout, which according to St. Francis de Sales is a life that is "very sweet, very happy and very loveable."
St. Francis de Sales, Bishop of Geneva and Doctor of the Church, in his work Introduction à la vie dévote, or Introduction to the Devout Life, provides us with a five part work, or 119 brief readings that Fr. G suggested we take at one or two each day during Lent and meditate upon them. The five parts are Attaining a Firm Resolution to the Devout Life; Prayer and Sacraments; The Practice of Virtue; Some Ordinary Temptations; and Renewing and Confirming the Soul in Devotion. Of course, if there are 119 sections and only 40 days during Lent, I'll have to read 2.975 sections each day...
Thanks for posting the link to Introduction to the Devout Life. I have some catching up to do, I didn't realize that I needed to read 2.975 sections each day!
