Thankfully our busy outdoor stuff was all last week. Kevin and the big boys were camping with Fr. M., and some other dads and boys while the rest of us were Vacation Bible Schooling.
This week while the sun burns hot we are
trapped luxuriating in the cool house. Two things have saved us from cabin fever. Books and pipe cleaners.
Kevin has been helping a family friend with a web site. She has been cleaning out her barn and brought over boxes of old books for my children. Books she saved from her childhood. Her grandchildren are not especially interested in old books so she bestowed them on us. They are a gold mine!
Old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. The original Pollyanna series. The Maida series. Stacks of them! Perfect summertime reading. Every nook and cranny seems to have a child sprawled out or curled up reading.
Then I found a stash of pipe cleaners in the craft closet. They provide hours of non-messy, quiet fun. The favorite thing to do with them seems to be making a question mark or light bulb shape and holding it behind an unsuspecting person's head. No matter how many times this is repeated they all burst into peals of laughter at this antic. Such amusing children.
