This is frighteningly true! When my daughter Agnes was about four or five, I suspected she might have a hearing loss. I stood behind her and asked in a moderate voice, "Agnes, would you like a cookie?" Nothing. "Agnes, would you like a cookie?" Nothing.

I had her to the specialist the next day. It turned out she had a massive fluid buildup in both ears. Anyway, without going into too much detail, she grew out of the problem and hears quite well now. In fact, she would hear that package you mentioned a mile away!
