I borrowed the title of this post from Mary Ellen at Tales From the Bonny Blue House because her post about Boy Country was so amusing and 'spot on' as our Aussie friends say .
Boys are an anomaly to us moms. They play football and soccer in the living room despite mom's rule against it. (Which is hard to enforce when dad is the one who starts the games half the time.) Anything that can be turned into a ball for kicking or throwing - is. They have pencil phobia when it comes to school work. Boys who may have been the most talkative children last year, just grunt once they hit adolescence.
They just don't see things the way girls do. For some reason they fail to appreciate a clean bedroom, the need for showers, and the possibility that their cleats might track mud through the house.
As they get taller, more broad shouldered and their voices deepen, their very presence in a room fills it up. They don't sit on the couch, they sprawl. When they go for a snack, everything comes out of the refrigerator to sit on the counter. And the amounts of food! We'll need a second refrigerator and a second mortgage to feed them in a few years!
But, oh these good boys are going to be great men. They are kind, they are bright and well read. Again and again they prove themselves to be hard workers. Again and again they show us holiness and integrity. We thank God daily for the privilege of raising them and look forward to knowing them as godly men.
Ohhh...your boys look handsome and happy.
