I'm sure I am not the only mom with this problem. I cannot keep up with how fast my children grow.
Physically. "Mom, my shoes pinch." Or, five minutes before you leave for church you realize that your son's pants are nearly an inch too short in the legs.
That's not really all that shocking. They eat, they grow.
What IS shocking is the emotional, spiritual and mental growth. "What do you mean you don't want a firetruck/fairy princess birthday party?" You learn that your sons do NOT want you to express concern of any kind on the sidelines during sports. They come to you with questions like, "Mom, what sins are attached to divorce?" Good grief, couldn't we go back to "What do you suppose hobbits drink at breakfast?"
I don't have a houseful of just little kids any more. I recently realized that my big boys were not wearing scapulars because all we had were a bunch of child sized ones. Duh. I wasn't keeping up. I ordered a supply of adult scapulars and they are happily wearing them again.
I am thrilled and proud to see glimpses of the adults my big kids are becoming. Of course I wouldn't wish that away. What an honor to be their mother! I just have this mental image of them reaching adulthood and me jogging behind, huffing and puffing trying to keep up.
No, you are not alone. My oldest is 24, but he really should only be 10...twenty four years could not have possibly gone by :-)
