Maria has started taking those momentous first steps. She takes a few, we applaud wildly, then she topples over. However, now that she has discovered crawling is for babies and walking is what big people do, she refuses to crawl. But she knows that she can’t walk well enough to get across the room yet. So she sits there and howls indignantly till someone holds her hands while she takes her little faltering steps. Not the most efficient way to be mobile.
